Updated: Jun 19, 2023

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, Myakka State Park, located in Sarasota County, Florida, is the perfect location for communing with nature. We took the kids and had a pleasant walk through the park through many trails. The wide variety of trees creates a cooling canopy but start out early to beat the Florida heat. Make sure to drop by the visitor center just after you enter the park for useful interactive information about the park. There you can see videos and exhibits that include wildlife habitats you will encounter while visiting the Park.

If you want to view the park but would prefer the comfort of your air conditioned car you can take the 7-mile scenic drive. This will that take you along the Upper Myakka Lake and other points of interest in the park. Along the way you will also see the river, wetlands, prairies and hammocks so plan on stopping frequently to take it all in. We enjoyed the drive and stopped often to fully appreciate the nature surrounding us.
