We love the beautiful beaches we are privileged to enjoy here in Florida. Coming from the mountains, we didn't experience all the activities the beach offers except when on vacation. So after moving here, Haley, our oldest, decided she wanted to try surfing. In fact, all three kids decided to give it a go with the urging of their big sister, the three of them took their first surf lesson on the other side of the state in St. Augustine. It was a fun experience for all, and the seed was planted.

In fact, all five of us have now been learning to surf. With Haley as our instructor, we have all been bitten by the surf bug. It's a fun activity that all ages and skill levels can participate in.

We are located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, known for its beautiful beaches and warm waters, making it a popular destination for frolicking in the waves and other beach activities. The Gulf, however, is not necessarily known for having great waves for surfing. That said, there are some locations on the Gulf Coast to catch some waves for surfers of all skill levels.

Here are some of the top surfing beaches on the Gulf Coast of Florida:

Siesta Key: Located in Sarasota, Siesta Key is known for its powdery white sandy beaches and consistent surf. The beach offers a variety of small breaks. Do not expect to get much of a wave here as it is usually rather flat, making it perfectly suitable for beginners. This is a good place to work on form and learning how to paddle with your arms, especially when its flat.

Clearwater Beach: Clearwater Beach is a popular destination for tourists and locals, with its crystal-clear waters and gentle waves. The surf is almost always going to be calm making it hard to catch a wave but is particularly well-suited for longboarders to cruise and for beginners.

Indian Rocks Beach: Indian Rocks Beach is a lesser-known spot that offers a variety of breaks for surfers of all levels. The beach is particularly popular in the fall and winter when the waves are larger.

St. Pete Beach: St. Pete Beach is located on the southern tip of Pinellas County and is a popular destination for surfers and other water sports enthusiasts. The beach offers a variety of breaks, including some that are suitable for beginners.

Next up surfing spots in Bradenton at Anna Maria Island:

Holmes Beach: Holmes Beach is located in the central part of Anna Maria Island and is another great spot for surfing. The waves here are consistent and suitable for surfers of all skill levels. If you are in luck, you may get swells after a storm.

Bradenton Beach is located on the southern end of Anna Maria Island and is a popular spot for surfers and bodyboarders. The waves here are great for all skill levels, and the beach is less crowded than other surf spots. Stick to the space between the twin piers. Surfing is not permitted on the neighboring beaches such as Coquina and Cortez Beach.

Manatee Beach: Manatee Beach is located on the eastern side of Anna Maria Island and is a popular spot for surfing, particularly during the winter months when the waves are larger. The beach also has outdoor showers, restrooms, and a picnic area.

It's always a good idea to check the local surf reports and weather conditions before heading to these beaches. Additionally, follow proper surfing etiquette and safety guidelines to ensure a fun and safe surfing experience. https://www.surfspots.co/spot/bradenton
